Indiana LRA Seeks Executive Director
The Newport Chemical Depot Reuse Authority is looking for an executive
director. The authority is responsible for the reuse of the Newport Chemical
Depot, located in west central Indiana in Vermillion County about two miles
south of the town of Newport. Chemical agents were manufactured and
stored at the 7,000-acre depot, which opened in 1941, until the stockpile
was eliminated in 2008.
The position’s qualifications include:
• knowledge of DOD base conversion and reuse planning
procedures, and grant sources;
• successful BRAC reuse resulting in investment/job creation;
• financial management and organizational experience, including
responsibility for preparing and administering financial plans and
budgets;
• consensus and coalition-building skills;
• five years of documented results-oriented experience in
economic development or related field;
• experience in public/legislative affairs, and an ability to
communicate with appropriate local, state, and national
agencies;
• managerial maturity, self-confidence, and strength of conviction
to provide administrative insight, counsel, and leadership to the
reuse authority;
• ability to work effectively with varied citizen interest groups and
individuals; and
• a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public
administration, planning, economic development or a related
field.
